Some Quick Observations...

AHL All Star Game - skip this part if you hate hockey:
While I hate all-star games, I do enjoy watching the skills competition. Last night I was lucky (or unlucky?) enough to catch some of the AHL all-stars' version. First thought: Those AHL guys are CUTE. Second thought: Those AHL guys are DUMB. Oh well - that's what killed it for me. Plus, they looked completely unenthused to be there. I'm sure when the NHL is in your sights, being in the AHL must sort-of suck. But compare that to sitting in a microscopic cubicle for 8 hours and having to deal with retarded corporate politics. I'll take the AHL any day. Anyway, here is an example of an interview with a hot AHL guy:

Interviewer: Hey Brett - this is your first all-star appearance. Did you do anything special to prepare?
Brett: Uhhh...ehhhh...ummm....duh....

Enough said. It was then time for a channel change...

Reality special - Pageant School:
PAGEANT SCHOOL!!! Where Miss America hopefuls learn how to apply makeup, do a honky-tonk dance in cowboy boots and accessorize vintage swimsuits. I kid you not. I couldn't even stick around to see who was crowned Miss Pageant School. It was that bad. However, Miss New Jersey was, apparently, very adept at choreographing a vintage swimsuit routine. And Miss New Yawk sucked at the two-step. Go fig.

Dumbest new syndrome award:
The crowning moment of the evening was the commercial for a new syndrome, PMDD. Yes, apparently, periods now give women ADD. COME ON PEOPLE! Even I cringed at this commercial.

Anyway, I'll be attending the Rangers-Leafs game on Wed, so I'll be sure to provide another LIVE post. Hopefully, I will not take another spill in the lobby. Wish me luck.

I Heart Figure Skating

I should correct myself. I heart WATCHING figure skating. The last time I physically skated, my ass became way too acquainted with the ice. OUCH. This year's men's National championship was a classic not-to-be missed catfight between Johnny Weir and Evan Lysecek (pronounced lice-a-check). What an unfortunate last name huh?!.

Go Evan Go:

Evan basically stole the show. Unfortunately, I missed the short program but knew he was only a fraction of a point ahead of Johnny. To make a long story short, he absolutely nailed his routine. He rocked a quad-triple-something combination and I love his choice of music - Carmen. Although, Evan, this is the same routine you did at the Olympics. Isn't it time for something new? I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it. And for all of you guys out there who think figure skating is gay, here's who Evan's dating: The gorgeous ice dancer, Tanith Belbin

Anyway, the announcers mention that Johnny is watching Evan's performance from the sidelines. This cannot be good. Look away, Johnny! I hope the crowd doesn't psych him out. Evan receives unbelievable scores and Johnny basically needs to be perfect.

Heeere's Johnny:

As a reminder, this is the guy who couldn't read the bus schedule at the Olympics. Johnny is probably my favorite skater to come along in quite some time. Is he artistic? Yes. Can he skate like the wind? Yes. Can he accessorize? Yes. What's not to love? Before the competition, they show Johnny entering the arena and he was carrying a fabulous white purse. I'm not being sarcastic either - I really did like it. He is who he is, he doesn't apologize for it and I like that. Unfortunately, it looks like Evan's performance got to him. He misses a jump combo, two-foots his quad and then falls on his ass. DAMNIT! Yet, the guy skates so beautifully, I almost hoped his artistic scores would compensate for his bad jumps. But it was not to be. Johnny wound up getting the bronze. Oh well - there's always Worlds.

It's Been Awhile...

A blog or so ago I said that I'd be kitchen testing a Rachael Raytard recipe as soon as I found one that sounded moderately appetizing. It's almost two months later and I think I can safely say that there are NO worthwhile RR recipes to attempt. To me, all of them sound like a complete waste of decent ingredients. I'm going to keep looking though - I'm sure I'll find SOMETHING eventually.

Now, onto more important matters: Top Chef

Ahhh Marcel. I am THRILLED that he's in the finals. Actually, I think he should've already been declared the winner after that ridiculous head-shaving attempt. I agree with Chef Tom that all of those jerkoffs should've been booted off. Of course, Bravo would never do that, even though it was perfectly justified. And I think their re-editing of that incident was totally lame. Why, Bravo? Why? Regardless, it should be a pretty interesting final episode. I'm sure you're all looking forward to my thoughts on it. Patience my dears, patience.

My latest discovery: 24
Now, I haven't been able to watch 24 until now because of a scheduling conflict with the once mighty Everwood. The fact that the stupid CW chose One Tree Hill over this show still enrages me, but at least they were able to do a final episode. One of the best series finales ever, if you ask me. Anyway, I am now hooked on 24. Am I a sick person because I was happy to see LA nuked instead of NY? Yes, I admit it! Let something happen in another city for a change. My other thought? Kumar makes terrorism HOT. And it's nice to see the evil Dr. Romano of ER playing another evil character, Jack Bauer's brother. Now, if he gets his arms chopped off by a helicopter in this series too - that would be weird. That is what happened to him on ER, right?

A Night of Boredom: NHL All-Star Game
I hate all-star games, so I pretty much flipped back and forth. The only thing I'll make mention of is the horrific renditions of the Canadian and National anthems. The Canadian anthem was performed by some "opera" singer who was too hip-heavy to be wearing those stretchy pants. Our National anthem showed us that Michelle Branch is now in some country "band" called The Wreckers, which is a great name because they wrecked the star spangled. I had to mute the TV because I was getting embarrassed. The only thing that saved it were the stars fans yelling "STARS" at the correct moments. Nice touch guys!

In any event, the next week should provide for some interesting viewing opportunities - so stay tuned!
