I Heart Figure Skating

I should correct myself. I heart WATCHING figure skating. The last time I physically skated, my ass became way too acquainted with the ice. OUCH. This year's men's National championship was a classic not-to-be missed catfight between Johnny Weir and Evan Lysecek (pronounced lice-a-check). What an unfortunate last name huh?!.

Go Evan Go:

Evan basically stole the show. Unfortunately, I missed the short program but knew he was only a fraction of a point ahead of Johnny. To make a long story short, he absolutely nailed his routine. He rocked a quad-triple-something combination and I love his choice of music - Carmen. Although, Evan, this is the same routine you did at the Olympics. Isn't it time for something new? I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it. And for all of you guys out there who think figure skating is gay, here's who Evan's dating: The gorgeous ice dancer, Tanith Belbin

Anyway, the announcers mention that Johnny is watching Evan's performance from the sidelines. This cannot be good. Look away, Johnny! I hope the crowd doesn't psych him out. Evan receives unbelievable scores and Johnny basically needs to be perfect.

Heeere's Johnny:

As a reminder, this is the guy who couldn't read the bus schedule at the Olympics. Johnny is probably my favorite skater to come along in quite some time. Is he artistic? Yes. Can he skate like the wind? Yes. Can he accessorize? Yes. What's not to love? Before the competition, they show Johnny entering the arena and he was carrying a fabulous white purse. I'm not being sarcastic either - I really did like it. He is who he is, he doesn't apologize for it and I like that. Unfortunately, it looks like Evan's performance got to him. He misses a jump combo, two-foots his quad and then falls on his ass. DAMNIT! Yet, the guy skates so beautifully, I almost hoped his artistic scores would compensate for his bad jumps. But it was not to be. Johnny wound up getting the bronze. Oh well - there's always Worlds.
